Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic Development and Communications Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in advancing our mission through strategic fundraising initiatives and compelling communications. This position combines the art of storytelling with the science of donor development to build sustainable funding relationships while amplifying our impact through various communication channels.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Fundraising

  • Design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies to meet annual revenue goals
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, and foundation prospects
  • Research and help write compelling grant proposals and funding applications
  • Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns
  • Maintain accurate donor database and ensure timely acknowledgment of all gifts
  • Develop and manage donor stewardship programs to ensure retention and growth
  • Create fundraising materials including press statements, donor presentations, and campaign collateral

Communications & Marketing

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans to enhance organizational visibility and engagement
  • Create compelling content across multiple platforms including website, social media, newsletters, and print materials
  • Manage organizational brand and ensure consistent messaging across all communications
  • Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other external communications
  • Coordinate with program staff to capture and share impact stories and survivor testimonials
  • Oversee website content management and social media presence
  • Design and produce marketing materials for programs and events

Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, community partners, and stakeholders
  • Represent the organization at community events, networking functions, and speaking engagements
  • Collaborate with board members to leverage their networks for development opportunities
  • Coordinate donor visits and cultivation activities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit development, communications, or marketing
  • Proven track record of successful fundraising with individual donors and institutional funders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft compelling narratives
  • Experience with donor database management systems (preferably Bloomerang/QGIV)
  • Proficiency in digital marketing tools and social media platforms
  • Strong project management skills with ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) certification or willingness to pursue
  • Experience with grant writing and foundation relations
  • Graphic design skills and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)
  • Experience working with diverse communities and cultural competency
