Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024

October 2024: Turning Points Network is celebrating Domestic Violence Awareness Month with special events in towns across Sullivan County. You are welcome to join us as we recognize the causes that lead to intimate partner and family abuse and explore prevention measures that can stop violence before it occurs.

Events & News

Claremont

  • October 9. Proclamation of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) with Mayor Dale Girard and Claremont City Council.
  • October 9. Purple lights and sign on Broad Street Park to recognize DVAM.
  • October 23. Community workshop: “Ten Signs of Healthy and Unhealthy Relationships” co-sponsored with Claremont Chamber of Commerce. Location: TBD. Refreshments and resources 5:30-6 pm; workshop 6-7 pm.
  • October 31. Community event: “Hallowesta” Community trick or treating with resources available outside of Changes Boutique & Thrift, 55 Pleasant Street. 3:30-5 pm.

Newport

  • October 3. Please join Turning Points Network in a Community Conversation on Building a Web of Support in the Newport Community and enjoy the current media display of “The Loosely Knit Alliance” at the Library Arts Center Gallery. TPN prevention educators will discuss how to develop healthy relationships to reduce bullying and aggression in our schools and communities. Library Arts Center, Main Street. 5:30 pm. Free. Raffle! Dessert provided.
  • October 9. Proclamation of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month by Town Manager Kyle Harris.
  • October 19. The Sherbrooke Ensemble Presents: “Rising from the Ashes” an afternoon of flute and piano music by women composers, featuring Cassie White, flute, and Mark Lutton, piano. South Congregational Church, 20 Church Street. 2 pm. Free. All donations will benefit Turning Points Network.
